There are some things that sticks with you as a child, one of them is an incident that happened when I was younger. My aunt had friends come over and when they left, we noticed that one of them had a wet spot. As kids we thought it was strange, we laughed about it and tried to guess who the culprit was.  It took years for me to realized that, she had no control over her incident. It can happen at anytime but mostly it happens during pregnancy, because the baby is pushing down on the bladder which makes the pelvic floor weak and leads to leakage.  It also happens sometimes after childbirth especially after vaginal birth, the pelvic floor is weak and if it doesn’t heal properly could lead to light bladder leakage.

poise - light bladder leakage

Many women don’t want to talk about it because it’s a bit embarrassing. Even though you’re shy, it’s still a discussion that needs to be had. It happens and could happen at any time, while you’re laughing, coughing, exercising, or sneezing.

With that said, I got together with a few friends for a girlfriend chat about the unspoken and often neglected side effect of pregnancy. What better way than over a drink of Blood-Red Cherry Sangria Mocktail and comedy to bring it full circle. We all shared our experiences, and what we’ve been doing to prevent it. I am huge fan of kegel exercises with and without kegel balls.

Things have definitely changed since the incident with my aunt’s friend. Poise brand has introduced new Poise Thin-Shape pads, which are up to 40% thinner than original Poise pads and are made specifically for bladder leaks. If you know someone struggling with LBL get them a free sample of the Poise Thin-Shape pads, they will thank you for it.
