This recipe is straightforward, and I know I say that a lot on here, but that’s because I can’t stand a complicated method, like who has time for that. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with these; please let me know if you give it a try. Making an apple crisp in the instant pot isn’t hard, but you have to follow the recipe to get the optimal best outcome. It’s quick and easy, but sadly it will take longer than 5 minutes, so if you’re in a hurry, this isn’t for you; however, if you have 30 minutes to spare, then you’re in for a treat.

HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT APPLE CRISP – STEP-BY-STEPTips & Tidbits –

  • Granny smith gets my vote, and I have also used golden delicious. I know some people will say it doesn’t make a difference, but it does. You want to use apples that are tart and not too sweet. Make sure they are firm to touch for the best result.
  • Make sure the oats are old fashion rolled oats and not quick oats.
  •  The apples need to be chopped into tiny pieces; if you have them too big and different sizes, they won’t cook evenly.
  • If you can afford it, I say get vanilla extra not the initiation because it enhances the flavor.
  • I wouldn’t suggest using an apple pie filling for you, go the extra mile and use fresh apples.
  • You store these in an airtight container up to a week without any issues.
  • If you add some nuts or cranberry to the recipe to give it more depth – walnuts work great.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream and drizzle caramel sauce on top.

Sweet, salty delicious and indulgent ooey-gooey treat the ultimate classic fall dessert with an amazing crunchy topping.
Author:
Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Serves: 4
Ingredients
  • Topping:
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, diced
  • ½ cup flour
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • Filling:
  • 4 medium-sized Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • Sauce:
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon coarse salt
Instructions
  1. Add melted butter to the Instant Pot and swirl to coat the bottom of the pan. Add in the filling ingredients; brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, and apples. Stir until well combined. Pour water over apples.
  2. Prepare the crumble topping. Mix together all dry ingredients until well combined. Add in the diced butter with a fork, using it to work the butter into the dry mix until combined well with a sand-like texture. Sprinkle the topping over the apple mixture in the pot. Close and lock the Instant Pot lid, and seal the valve.
  3. Select manual high pressure for 1 minute. Once finished cooking, turn the steam valve for a quick release. Remove the lid once the pin has dropped.
  4. While the Apple crumble cooks, prepare your caramel sauce. Place the butter in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted, add the milk and sugar. Stir constantly until mixture boils, then continue to boil for 2 minutes. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Set aside until ready for use.
  5. Serve the apple crisp warm in a bowl and drizzle with the salted caramel sauce. Great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
Leftover sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1 month.
