5 Tips for Hosting a Cinco De Mayo Fiesta + El Monterey Giveaway
5 Tips for Hosting a Cinco De Mayo Fiesta. Vamanos! It’s party time. Cinco De Mayo is upon us, and something I find interesting is that people in Mexico hardly celebrates Cinco De Mayo. Don’t get me wrong it’s acknowledged but it’s not celebrated like we do in United States, to them it’s more of an Holiday, where they get the day off. Where as here in the States, it’s authentically celebrated especially if you live in a predominantly Mexican community. You will be amazed as to the extend the celebration goes, from mariachi bands, to folk dancers, and colorful parades to lots and lots of yummy food and drinks. To achieve the same effect sans mariachi band, here are –
5 Tips for Hosting a Cinco De Mayo Fiesta
- Guest
Invite anyone and everyone you enjoy spending time with. In my case, that will be my family, they are the essence of my being and it isn’t a party without them. You can encourage your guest to participate by wearing festive attire. - Décor
You will need lots and lots of colors. To start, get a colorful table cover, use a sombrero or mini pinata as a center piece. If the event is being hosted outside on the deck, hang a few paper lantern. You can purchase the lantern in different colors and they are usually very inexpensive. This is an excellent way to bring in colors. Maraca, lemons/lime, and festive place-mats will also make a great addition to the decor. - Menu
Who doesn’t like good food. Impress your guest with an array of mouthwatering appetizers like El Monterey taquitos, empanadas, tappas, tamales, and for the entrée you can try your hands at fiesta rice. Don’t forget chips and salsa. For dessert tapioca, churros, dulce de leche cheese cake (I make a mean dulce de leche cheesecake and will share it with you one of these days) Cinco-de-mayo isn’t complete without drinks, Margarita, Beer Sangria, Jell-o shots and for a non-alcoholic drink try this yummy Sorrel & Raspberry Mocktail.
- Music
A party isn’t party without good music. Create a festive music list to accompany the theme. Currently on my playlist – Julión Álvarez Y Su Norteño Banda – Te Hubieras Ido Antes, Romeo Santos – Odio Feat. Drake, Bailando by Enrique Iglesias, Por Que La Engane? by Espinoza Paz. They are all super chill songs and currently on top 40 chart. Also you can’t go wrong with Vivir Mi Vida by Marc Anthony. If all else fails, purchase a pre-made Cinco de Mayo Music CD - Games
To really get the party going, invest in some creative cinco de mayo game. If you’ve kids at the party, a pinata, pin the tail on the donkey and hot sombrero are games that would get everyone up and having fun.

I have tried them all. My favorite are the fiery hot shell shockers even though I prefer the regular taquitos because they have a flour tortilla shell rather than the corn tortillas the shockers have.
