5 Family Friendly Spring Break Staycation Ideas

With spring break right around the corner, many families are putting together the final touches on a spring break vacation. If traveling far and wide isn’t a possibility for you and you family. That doesn’t mean you have to sit at home all day twiddling your thumbs! Staycations are a great way to have fun without going far.

Planning a staycation is likely to be less stressful as you know the general area you live in. Consider this an opportunity to explore the locations that your area or region is best known for. Often we have no idea the fun activities in our own backyard. Not only will you get to experience them but the next time you have an out of town guests you’ll be able to give them ideas of things to do and see right in your backyard.

5 Family Friendly Spring Break Staycation Ideas:

Find a new restaurant in your town that you’ve never tried.
Is there someplace that all of your friends are talking about, or that is new on the local food scene? Just like when you’re on vacation, take the time to eat something new. Because you’re local you can consult local publications that offer coupons or discounts to save on food too. Because you won’t be eating out every day, like you would be on an out of town vacation, splurging on a special meal won’t break the bank.
Plan a day or a few hours in a part of town you don’t usually visit.
It’s easy to stick to one part of town when you’re dealing with the daily grind. If you live in a big city, plan to spend some time in another part of town that you never make it to. If you live in a small city, make a list of places you don’t regularly go and take time to do it!
Act like a tourist and visit an attraction.
What is your town known for? Is it the kitschy museum showcasing the founding of your city? Or, a hiking trail that tourists come to experience? Visit your local city or region’s tourist office and find out. You might even be able to get a resident discount.
Spend one or two nights in a local hotel.
It might seem like a waste of money but consider spending a night or two in a local hotel. Just like with restaurant coupons, you can watch for discounts or use a website like priceline.com to get highly discounted rooms. Go swimming, relax, and maybe even order breakfast in bed. It’s all part of the experience!
Put all of your experiences together.
While on your “staycation” document your trip, just like you would if you were out of town. Get everyone involved through keeping a journal and taking pictures. Then put everything together. The next time you have guests you can show them your book of ideas and help them plan activities based on what you enjoyed.

Those are all great ideas. We have 3 little ones, so it’s extremely expensive to travel and find somewhere that we can all fit. Staycations are just as great. 🙂

Its amazing how much you can actually find from having a staycation. Also a great way to teach the kids that you don’t have to drive for hours or jump on a plane to enjoy the benefits of a break. Also helps everyone appreciated what is in there own back yard..

These tips are so great! Sometime, staycation is all I need to appreciate more things in life ready and in stored for me. Well, my kids are so little too to bring them out so this is just perfect. Thanks for sharing all of these, I love reading them.
