Getting involved in the school, with the teacher and the PTO made a huge difference for me. I really got to see what was going on and I could tell what was working and what wasn’t within the school.

Being involved is huge in keeping your children safe. Too many parents just send their children to school without another thought and so many things can happen they wouldn’t even know. It’s scary really.

Send back all the paperwork that school has sent home! We got stuff on book bill day so that the school knows your emergency contacts, etc.

I would tell my child not to go up to any cars that stopped near them and the driver started speaking to them. We always lived in the country and I worked from home. Now we’re in a bigger place with more people and though I work from home, I still get nervous. This is a great list though!

I think you covered it really well. The only thing I could think of adding is maybe school bus safety. Listen to the driver. Hands in the bus. No goofing around or throwing things. How to cross the road in front of the bus. And maybe discussing with the older kids what they should do if the school bus was in an accident.
