5 Classic Arcade Games That Defined Your Childhood

As I sat down a few days ago to interview the cast of Pixels, I couldn’t help but reminisce about my childhood and the classic arcade games I grew up playing. When I was little, we weren’t allowed out of the house much, besides going to swimming and tennis lessons. However every Friday, my parents would take us out to dinner, watch a movie and play the arcade. Below are a few of the classic games from the 80s and 90s.

  1. Pac-Man
“Wakka, wakka, when you hear that sound you know what time it is, it’s time for Pac-Man. Can you believe it has been 35 years since we were first introduced to Pac-Man. Yes, Pac-Man is 35 years old. I don’t know about you but I feel slightly middle-age thinking about this. If you want to relieve your childhood memories with your little one, you can acquire your very own Pac-Man arcade game on Amazon.
  2. Tetris
Who didn’t play Tetris. It’s super addictive and one of the most recognized arcade game to date. It’s a tough game and if memory serves me right, I don’t think I ever got passed level 7. Grr, it still bugs me. I’ve the newer version on my phone but with kids and work, I hardy have time to enjoy it. You can enjoy the old classic with your family. Buy it on Amazonmario- classic arcade game
  3. Mario Bro
This is probably the only game I can confidently say, I dominated. The adorable Mario bro arcade game offered hours of fun, with each level opening doors to more adventure and obstacles to conquer. I spent hours memorizing each nuke and cranny, waiting in anticipation for what’s to come. Available on AmazonDonkey Kong - classic arcade game
  4. Donkey Kong
Reminiscent of the movie King Kong, donkey kong is an obstacle game that involves jumping and dodging while trying to rescue a lady. The goal is to see how high you can go without being hit by a barrel. Available on eBay
  5. Street Fighter
KO, jab, uppercut, street fighter taught me all I needed to know about one-on-one combat. Trying to figure out which up-down, right-left button to press to apply the most force is part of the allure. I am not sure why my parents allowed us to play this game because it had gore and blood. Looking for some oldies to add to your game room, street fighter is a winning combo and it’s available for purchase on Amazon

We’ve definitely come a long way and it makes me miss the simpler times. Someday down the line, I would love to share some of the video games that made me fall in love with tech. From Atari, to Sega Genesis to Nintendo, we’ve had our share. Now your turn, what are some of the arcade games that defined your childhood?
