2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD – Ultimate Family Road Trip Vehicle

We seldom go on road trips, especially as a family. So when my mom suggested that we drive down to the Runway Moms for a Cause event, I panicked. My response to her, “I don’t enjoy long rides” however my response should have been, I have limited experience driving long distance. I wanted a vehicle that could handle the road and accommodate my family of 4, which is why we settled on the 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD.

My mom’s first car was Mazda 626, she got it back in the 70’s. She really loved it because, it was one of her first major purchases after graduating from nursing school. She saved all her money till she had enough to buy it. I had actually forgotten about that car, till my mom brought it up during our trip. Needless to say, she spent the whole trip reminiscing.

Safety
From a safety standpoint CX-5 comes standard with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear-view camera, 24-hour roadside assistant, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, and lots of air bags. Nothing kills a road trip than gas prices but with 30 mpg on the highway, the CX-5 is perfect for frugal families.

One of my favorite optional safety feature in the vehicle is the Smart Brake Support, it’s a neat feature that automatically applies the brakes when you’re getting too close to the vehicle in front of you. I mean how amazing is that.

Interior
It comes standard with a 7-inch color touch seen display navigation system. I like the fact that the navigation system, gives us information about the nearest gas and food location. When you’re on a road trip, especially with kids, these two items are very important. You can easily connect your phone via Bluetooth for hands free phone and audio.

Standard interior feature includes heated front seat, leather trim front seat, multifunction command control, rear privacy glass and much more.

Storage
There’s 35 cubic feet of trunk space. For added bonus it has folding rear seats just in case you need extra space.
